I’m sure like many of you here on Oppo, you have an automotive bucket list. Mine includes:
1. Driving a car indoors.
2. Driving a car to the summit of a mountain.
3. Driving a car at 200 MPH.
I’ve got my cars for 1&2 (original Mini & Range Rover respectively) but I’m stumped when it comes to 3 since 200 MPH cars aren’t exactly common place and are usually bloody expensive.
So what car do you think is the cheapest way to 200 MPH?
Disclaimer: I’m live in the UK so a Corvette with a shot of nitrous isn’t cheap.

Old AMG, likely a de-limited SL65, S65, or CL65.

If memory serves there are organizations that do this. They bring the cars and take you to the track and you try and get in the 200 mph club, its a couple of grand, but cheaper than buying or building. Or wait 20 years; all cars will be doing 200 mph by then....

Find a slippery car - with a really low cD - like an old Citroen XM - cD is .29
remove all antennae, mirrors, and wipers. Block off air passages in grille with smooth plastic. Lower suspension and add POWAH!

$10k and some fab/tune time and you’ll be there. May not hit 200 often, but it’ll do it at least once.

Get something with a V12.
On second thought, get something with a W12. Get a Phaeton. The W12 model was reportedly capable of 201mph when delimited. And of course you can always strip it, sell the parts, and make it both faster and cheaper.

The FP has been over this, but they never made a “top 10” or whatever, I think because I usually bring up my car and they hate that I’m usually right when the answer isn’t Miata ha.
Fastest the cheapest? They answer is always DSM. Specifically a 1st generation, or 1G
This FWD Talon went 213mph on a budget of about $6k. Their 900hp
$12k build
will try to reach 240mph.
Call the styling bland but the overbuilt 4g63 got paired with the slipperiest body of almost any sportscar ever made next to the Subaru SVX. Its CdA (drag co. X frontal area-what really matters) is barely beaten by a Honda insight and no other civilian car!
I must say highway driving is surprisingly quiet, a word not usually associated with the driving.
EDIT: Oook UK....hm. I think they have them somewhere in Europe?

1) I vote recreating the Top Gear Fiesta vs Corvette drive through a mall... that was gold.
2) Go to the Pike’s Peak Hillclimb. Drive up the mountain and watch the race in the same weekend. The Pike’s Peak race should be on every gearhead’s bucket list anyway!
3) Used Mustang or Camaro on the bottle? Lots of bottle?

Same mini for the indoor run plus one hugeass stratospheric balloon. 200mph. Oh and a clamp and explosive bolts.
